  • Nitto NT01

Nitto tires are imported, sold, and distributed by TTHA, the fully-owned North American subsidiary of Toyo Tire Corporation in Osaka, Japan. TTHA and its group companies are headquartered in Cypress, California. Nitto was founded in 1949, and has been providing enthusiasts the tires and sizes that most others don’t give.

The Nitto NT01 is a DOT-compliant competition tire which generates excellent handling and dry performance. More information can be found in the course of this Nitto NT01 review.

    Features and Benefits

The Nitto NT01 is a R-compound tire that’s meant for those who often spend their free time racing on tracks. It is a tire that’s capable of meeting the challenges associated with high speed and agile cornering. The levels of grip attained on this tire will bring a smile to the lips of every aspiring race driver and also increase confidence. Take a look at the tire’s features and benefits in detail:

    • Consistent stability and grip: Large shoulder blocks help maintain stability and provide consistent grip in track conditions. A reinforced sidewall and advanced polymer construction also help increase stability.
    • Good braking performance and acceleration: A large contact patch ensures a lot of rubber for improved braking performance and high acceleration.
    • Corners aggressively: A combination of tread blocks and the large rubber contact patch ensures that a vehicle on these tires corners aggressively.
    • Quick lap times: The special rubber compound ensures drivers are able to put in quick lap times.
    • Long tire life: The racing compound being used here is one that ensures long life on these tires.
    • Resists heat buildup: The reinforced sidewall and the special race compound prevent heat buildup, thereby enabling longer laps.

    Pros and Cons

The racing community is largely of the opinion that the Nitto NT01 offers an excellent combination of grip and heat resistance for large sedans. Even if the racing tire does slip, it is very easy to bring it back on line. During the Nitto NT01 tire review, we found that the sidewall doesn’t get bent in fast transitions. Here is a look at the pros and cons of this tire:

    PROS:

    • High speed rating of W
    • Used to attack corners
    • Highly stable
    • Long tread life
    • Consistent grip
    • Excellent dry traction

    CONS:

    • Wet traction is not particularly good
    • Should not be used when temperatures lower than 45 degrees Fahrenheit
    • Does not come with limited manufacturer warranty

SimpleTire’s view on Nitto NT01 tires

    Nitto NT01

The Nitto NT01 is one of the best tires on the market for any individual who plans to grow in the competitive space of motor racing. As every training instructor would say, the tires are just as integral to racing success as are the driver’s skills. As Nitto has been in the space of enthusiast-based tires for several years, it has developed considerable expertise. A special racing compound is hugely helpful in generating speed and is one of the reasons for a high Nitto NT01 rating. The tire communicates through constant feedback via throttle or steering wheel in a manner just as well as a high performance street tire in similar circumstances.

Vehicles the Nitto NT01 is a good replacement tire for

Going fast is the main aim of fitting Nitto NT01 tires, although good handling is also important. Even if these tires are driven on regular roads and highways, their asymmetrical tread pattern will enable them to deliver decent levels of wet surface grip, although not the best. Consider the following vehicles for fitting them as replacement tires:

    • Nissan 240SX
    • Datsun 280Z
    • BMW M5
    • Ford Mustang GT
    • Chevrolet Camaro
    • Dodge Viper
    • Toyota Supra

These are dry weather track day tires. With full tread they do ok in rain but quickly wear off the grooves. If kept happy from pressure point of view, and flipped on the rims, they will give good life. Grip really gets better mid life and they heat cycle out slowly. You can usually run these down to the cords.

Great track tire. Gets warm and sticky fast, not bad in the rain as long as you don't drive through standing water. Thread life depends on use, alignment specs. First set lasted 2 years 15 track days 6k street miles.

Great tires, but it appears that Simple Tire is buying old stock. The set I just received has a build code of 2016 which is bit old for a race tire. Warning to stay away from simple tire for competition tires.

While I haven't mounted up the most recent set, the NT01 has been my Go-To track tire for years. It won't quite match Hoosier (when new, at least) performance for lap time, but it is a very consistent, easy to drive tire that handles multiple heat cycles with minimal degradation in performance.

Amazing track day tire for the price. For track use these tires are great. Tire life is great, I got a handful of track days plus about 25 days of autocross on my current set and they still have some life left. They are a very neutral tire and you can tell when they are about to slide or break loose. On the street this tire is loud, rides a bit harsh, doesn't get up to proper temps, and will wear down fast.
