  • Double Coin is a subsidiary of CMA LLC and manufactures high-quality tires that deliver good performance. Double Coin offers a comprehensive range of TBR (Truck and Bus Radial) and OTR (Off-The-Road) tires in the North American region. The Double Coin RLB400 is the manufacturer’s closed shoulder drive-position tire suitable for use on semi-trucks. The tire is designed and engineered to offer better traction, confident handling, increased retreadability, solid durability, and longer mileage.

In this Double Coin RLB400 review, we will go over the TBR tire’s features and benefits, strengths and weaknesses, available sizes, and our analysis based on SimpleScore.

    Features and Benefits

The Double Coin RLB400 is a drive-axle commercial tire, which means it is designed to boost traction performance on various surfaces. It is not a steer-position tire, and shouldn’t be confused with steer tires that are responsible for the vehicle’s handling. Since it is a closed-shoulder drive-position tire, it is suitable for high-speed driving on the highways and can perform transporting tasks during regional or long-haul operations. The RLB400 boasts many great features that influence the performance. So, let’s check them out along with their corresponding benefits.

    • Long-lasting tread life – The RLB400’s closed shoulder tread design ensures even wear to promote longevity. The extra-deep 30/32” tread with stone drilling protectors provides longer and slower wear and protects the tread from damage caused by stone and other objects.
    • Solid traction performance – The tread blocks of the tire feature multiple sipes for improved grip on wet surfaces. The closed shoulder tread pattern boosts traction performance, while the wide and deep grooves force water out of the contact patch area to prevent hydroplaning and increase wet traction.
    • Maximized retreadability – The RLB400 is constructed to promote retreadability for extended use and lower costs per mile.
    • Enhanced durability – Double Coin has also taken care of durability and has constructed the tire using heavy-duty casing for increased strength and robustness. While durable tread compound guards the tire from punctures, cuts, and chips, the sturdy sidewalls boost its load-carrying capacity.
    • Better highway stability – The wider and flat footprint of the RLB400 maintains contact with the surface to provide improved stability while driving on the highways at high speeds. Likewise, the heavy-duty casing also helps in maintaining stability and keeps the tire in shape for effortless turning and lane change.
    • Impressive self-cleaning – The wider grooves and optimized tread pattern of the Double Coin RLB400 keep dirt and debris out of the footprint for increased self-cleaning.

The Double Coin RLB400 is available in 22.5- to 24.5-inch wheel diameter and some of its offered sizes include:

    Pros and Cons

SimpleTire’s view on Double Coin RLB400 tires

For your commercial region or long-haul truck, if you’re looking for a solid drive-axle tire that doesn’t put a dent in your wallet and justifies very well on the performance front, then the Double Coin RLB400 is one of the value-for-money choices on the market. With a 7.8 SimpleScore rating in durability, the RLB400 indicates that it comes with adequate robustness and strength to withstand highway driving pressures and haul heavier loads. On the traction front, the tire is admirable and secures a 7.6 SimpleScore rating in this area. Similarly, this truck tire also earns a respectable 7.5 out of 10 in longevity, assuring the buyers that it is built for extended use to cover more miles and reduce the per-mile costs.

The tread design of the RLB400 is optimized for self-cleaning to maintain surefootedness and boost grip and traction. The wider footprint and optimized contact patch of this tire also promote better handling performance at higher speeds during highway drives.

That being said, this tire is not made for use in moderate to severe winter conditions, on thick snow or ice, and also doesn’t come with a limited manufacturer tread life warranty.

We use these tires on both of our over the road trucks and they are awesome. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars on ride noise is because when you first put them on they are very noisy but they do quiet down. Our trucks go through MT and into Canada and the tires do a really great job in the snow. We tried other brands but they don't compare.
